The Eligibility Check: Auditing Analyst Evaluation Readiness

Nubank (Nu Holdings)

Objective: Given a company's current customer count and revenue, determine whether it clears the Gartner Magic Quadrant eligibility bar and decide whether to pursue this cycle or wait.

You're the AR lead for a newer small-business banking product line at Nubank, deciding whether to submit for a relevant Gartner Magic Quadrant this cycle.

Check the business line's numbers against the eligibility threshold before committing calendar time to a submission that can't qualify.

Gartner Magic Quadrant eligibility thresholds

To be eligible for a Gartner Magic Quadrant, a vendor generally needs a minimum of 100 paying customers or $5 million in annual revenue.

The business line has 78 paying customers and $6.4 million in annual revenue. Does it clear the eligibility bar, and which threshold does it clear on?

Google Sheets— Open the metrics doc: customer_count, annual_revenue, category columns.

Procedure

  1. Pull current customer_count and annual_revenue for the business line
  2. Check customer_count against the 100-customer threshold: fails (78)
  3. Check annual_revenue against the $5M threshold: passes ($6.4M)
Sample output
Business line: Nubank SMB Banking
  Customers: 78 (threshold 100) -> FAIL
  Revenue: $6.4M (threshold $5M) -> PASS
  Eligible: YES, on revenue threshold

Healthy

The memo states clearly which threshold was cleared, since the two criteria are 'either/or,' not both required.

Unhealthy

Assuming the business line is ineligible because it missed the customer-count threshold, without checking revenue.

What this means

The eligibility bar is 100 customers OR $5M revenue, missing one criterion doesn't disqualify a vendor that clears the other.

So what do I do about it?

Final deliverable

A one-page eligibility memo stating whether the business line qualifies, which threshold it clears, and a go/no-go recommendation for this cycle's submission window.

Sample output
Adyen Platforms, Eligibility Memo (excerpt)

Customers: 142 (threshold 100) -> PASS
Revenue: $4.1M (threshold $5M) -> FAIL
Eligible: YES, on customer-count threshold
Recommendation: proceed with submission for the Q4 evaluation window.

Success criteria

You're done when you can:

  • Correctly evaluates both thresholds independently, not as an 'and' condition
  • States which specific threshold the business line clears
  • Produces a clear go/no-go recommendation
