Vetting a Creator Shortlist for Brand Fit

Zomato

Objective: Given a real 10-creator shortlist with follower counts, engagement rates, and audience data, apply the lesson's four fit signals to decide who actually deserves outreach.

You're the creator marketing lead for Zomato launching a premium subscription push. Your agency sent a 10-creator shortlist sorted by follower count, and you have budget for 4 partnerships.

Re-rank the shortlist using audience overlap, rolling engagement, comment quality, and brand safety, not raw follower count.

The process

1 step

Step 01 of 01

Vetting creators by fit signals instead of follower count

The lesson names four signals that predict campaign success: audience overlap with your ICP, rolling 30-day engagement (not lifetime average), comment quality, and a 90-day brand safety review.

Creator #3 on the agency list has 480k followers and a 2.9% lifetime engagement rate. Creator #7 has 62k followers and a 6.1% rolling-30-day engagement rate with buying-intent comments. Which one gets outreach first, and why?

Google Sheets— Import creator-shortlist.csv, add columns for rolling engagement, audience-overlap %, and a brand-safety flag.

Procedure

  1. Import creator-shortlist.csv and re-sort by rolling 30-day engagement, not follower count
  2. Cross-check each finalist's stated audience demo against Zomato's ICP (urban, 22-38, food delivery users)
  3. Scan the last 10 posts of each finalist for comment quality: buying questions vs. emoji-only reactions
  4. Flag any creator with a competitor mention or controversy in the trailing 90 days
Sample output
Re-ranked shortlist (top 4 of 10)
  1. foodie_reels_kavya 62k followers 6.1% rolling engagement ICP overlap 78% comments: buying questions SAFE
  2. citybites_dev 41k followers 5.4% rolling engagement ICP overlap 71% SAFE
  3. megafoodblogger_x 480k followers 2.9% lifetime engagement ICP overlap 44% FLAGGED: competitor mention (Swiggy) in last 60 days
  4. tiffin_talks_priya 58k followers 5.8% rolling engagement ICP overlap 69% SAFE

Healthy

The final 4 picks are the highest rolling-engagement, highest-ICP-overlap creators, and the flagged competitor-mention creator is dropped regardless of reach.

Unhealthy

Picking the 480k-follower creator anyway because the reach number looks better in a slide deck.

What this means

Reach without fit is just an expensive impression; the four signals filter for actual conversion likelihood.

So what do I do about it?
