The Redundant Stack: Tearing Down HelloFresh's Paid Ads Tool Bill

HelloFresh

Objective: Given a synthetic paid-ads tool bill for a scaled ecommerce account, apply the lesson's Common Mistakes list to flag genuine redundancy, missing attribution, and the fastest cuts.

HelloFresh's performance marketing team has scaled past $20K/month in spend and started layering on tools, but nobody has audited the bill since.

Read the bill like an auditor: which tools duplicate the same competitive-intel job, which platform-reported number can't be trusted without an attribution layer, and what's missing.

Before you start

What you'll need

Free path (everything below is enough to finish)

FreeBuild the bill audit and cut/keep/fix list

Free, no account friction

FreeAccess the free Creative Center research the account is missing

Already the platform in use for spend, Creative Center is bundled in for free

The process

Specimens to review

The team trusts Meta's in-platform 4.2x ROAS number and has never built a blended, post-attribution view. Using the lesson's Common Mistakes list, what's redundant on this bill, what's dangerously missing, and what free tool is being ignored?

Sample output
HelloFresh Performance Marketing, Monthly Tool Bill

1. Semrush PPC Toolkit ........ $139.95/mo
2. SpyFu ...................... $39/mo
3. Optmyzr .................... $209/mo
4. AdEspresso by Hootsuite .... $49/mo
5. TikTok Ads Manager ......... $0 (active spend, no Creative Center research)

Meta reported ROAS (in-platform): 4.2x
Blended ROAS (spreadsheet, post-iOS 14.5): unknown, never calculated

Total: $436.95/mo

Specimen: synthetic, realistic

Final deliverable

A cut/keep/fix list for the bill: which subscription to cut, which platform number to stop trusting, and the one free tool to start using.

See a reference example
Sample output
Airbnb-style performance team, tool bill teardown (excerpt)

FIX FIRST (not a subscription): stop trusting in-platform Meta ROAS, build a blended post-iOS-14.5 view before the next budget call
CUT: SpyFu ($39/mo), keep Semrush PPC Toolkit only, drop the duplicate competitive-intel tool
MISSING ($0): TikTok Creative Center, never opened despite live TikTok spend

Success criteria

You're done when you can:

  • Flags the missing post-attribution layer as the critical issue, not a nice-to-have
  • Identifies the Semrush + SpyFu overlap as the redundant line item
  • Does not flag Optmyzr or AdEspresso as redundant, since neither duplicates another tool on the bill
