Match the Offer: Segment-to-Strategy Drill
Mailchimp
Objective: Given 8 customer RFM profiles, correctly assign the segment name and the appropriate email strategy for each, avoiding the equal-weighting and over-discounting mistakes the lesson warns against.
You're prepping a segment-strategy brief for Mailchimp's own customer marketing team ahead of next month's send calendar.
Sort 8 supplied RFM profiles into named segments and assign the correct strategy, catching any profile a naive equal-weighting approach would misclassify.
Before you start
What you'll need
Free path (everything below is enough to finish)
FreeList the 8 profiles and assign segment plus strategy in adjacent columns
A drill this size needs no more than a simple table
Final deliverable
An 8-row table pairing each RFM profile with its segment name and recommended email strategy.

Sample output
Squarespace, segment-strategy drill (excerpt) Profile Segment Strategy R5-F5-M2 Potential Loyalist Cross-sell nudge, not a discount, this customer is new and highly engaged R1-F5-M5 Can't Lose Them High-touch win-back, high historical value despite recent lapse R2-F1-M1 About to Sleep Light reactivation content, not a coupon
Success criteria
You're done when you can:
- Correctly flags a high-Monetary, low-Recency profile as 'Can't Lose Them' rather than 'Lapsed', avoiding the equal-weighting trap
- Assigns discount depth based on Monetary score, not blanket offers across all 8 profiles
- Recommends suppression or a last-chance email only for genuinely low-R, low-F, low-M profiles
