The 90-Day Cadence Plan: Building a Daily Notes Content Calendar
Objective: Build a 7-day rotating Notes content calendar using the lesson's four proven formats, sized to a realistic 1-to-3-Notes-per-day cadence, so a newsletter never faces a blank page.
You run growth for Ustraa, the Gurugram-founded men's grooming D2C brand VLCC Health Care acquired in 2023 for roughly ₹61 crore. Leadership wants a Substack newsletter for grooming education content, and you have to prove daily Notes posting is sustainable before committing budget to it.
Build a 7-day rotating calendar mapping each day to one of the four Notes formats (contrarian take, vulnerable confession, generosity Note, behind-the-scenes), so posting never depends on daily inspiration.
Before you start
What you'll need
Free path (everything below is enough to finish)
Free, shareable, and enough structure for a weekly content rotation without extra software
Free to publish, Notes is a built-in feed inside the platform
The process
1 step
Step 01 of 01
The lesson's Step 1 states creators who post weekly stall while daily posters compound, because each Note trains the algorithm on what the audience looks like. Step 2 gives four repeatable formats so daily output doesn't mean daily invention.
You have one week and four formats. How do you distribute them across 7 days at 1 to 3 Notes per day without repeating a format twice in a row?
Procedure
- List all 7 days down column A
- Assign each day one primary format, rotating contrarian take, vulnerable confession, generosity Note, behind-the-scenes so no format repeats on consecutive days
- For days with 2 to 3 Notes, add a second lighter-weight format (a restack-with-comment counts as one of the 3)
- Write a one-line draft hook for each planned Note in the Draft Hook column
- Add a Restack Target column, name 2 accounts in the grooming or men's lifestyle niche to restack that day
Mon: Contrarian take, 'Everyone says beard oil needs 10 ingredients. Here's why 3 is enough.', Restack: @groomingscience Tue: Behind-the-scenes, screenshot of a failed 2019 product batch, Restack: @menshealthindia Wed: Generosity Note, recommend 6 grooming/skincare writers, Restack: (n/a, this IS the generosity Note) Thu: Vulnerable confession, 'Our first Notes month got 40 subscribers, here's the mistake', Restack: @d2cindia Fri: Data-backed industry insight, one stat from the newsletter's last issue, Restack: @beautyops Sat: Contrarian take, restack-with-comment only (lighter day), Restack: @groomingscience Sun: Behind-the-scenes, weekly analytics screenshot, Restack: @menshealthindia
Healthy
Every day has an assigned format before the week starts, and no two consecutive days share a format.
Unhealthy
A blank calendar with only 'post something' as the plan, which is how creators stall after week one.
What this means
A pre-built rotation removes the daily decision of what to post, the single biggest reason creators quit before day 30 per the lesson's Common Mistakes section.
So what do I do about it?
| Symptom | Action | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Team keeps missing days because no one knows what to post | Pre-fill the 7-day rotation one week ahead every Sunday | 30 min |
| Same format posted 3 days running, engagement flattening | Enforce the no-repeat-adjacent-day rule in the calendar | 5 min |
Final deliverable
A 7-day rotating Notes calendar with format, draft hook, and restack target assigned to every day.

YETI Coolers, Notes 7-day plan (excerpt) Mon: Contrarian take, 'A $400 cooler doesn't need dry ice for a weekend trip. Here's the actual math.', Restack: @outdoorgearreview Wed: Generosity Note, recommend 8 outdoor and camping writers by handle Fri: Data-backed insight, ice-retention test result from this week's issue, Restack: @campingscience
Success criteria
You're done when you can:
- All 7 days have an assigned format with no adjacent-day repeats
- At least one generosity Note and one data-backed insight appear in the week
- Every day names a specific restack target account
