Find the Broken Zap: A Lead-Routing Spec With Hidden Failure Points

Snowflake

Objective: Given a written Zap spec that looks complete, apply the lesson's Common Mistakes list to find the failure points that won't show up until the Zap has been live for weeks.

You're reviewing a lead-routing Zap spec handed off by a contractor before Snowflake's marketing team turns it on for a launch driving heavy form traffic.

Read the spec and flag every failure point against the lesson's four common mistakes, then note which parts of the spec are actually fine.

Before you start

What you'll need

Free path (everything below is enough to finish)

FreemiumWhere the spec's error-notification setting and task-volume plan get fixed

Error notifications and Zap history review are available on every Zapier plan including free

Zapier(optional)
FreemiumA higher task-volume tier once the estimated 600 fills/week x 3 actions is confirmed

Free/Starter task caps will be exceeded by the estimated launch-week volume

The process

Specimens to review

Match each failure point in this spec to one of the lesson's four common mistakes, and rate severity. Then note anything in the spec that is already done correctly.

Sample output
TRIGGER: New submission, 'Data Cloud Demo Request' form (polls every 15 minutes on the free plan)
ACTION 1: Create contact in Salesforce
ACTION 2: Add contact to Mailchimp list 'Demo Requests'
ACTION 3: Post message to #sales-leads Slack channel
The spec was tested once during setup with one sample submission, then turned on. Estimated volume was not calculated before launch; the launch campaign is expected to drive roughly 600 form fills in the first week. Error notifications in the Zapier account are left at the default (off). Slack message content includes the lead's name, company, and which page they submitted from.

Specimen: synthetic, realistic

Final deliverable

A written list of failure points mapped to the lesson's four common mistakes, each rated for severity, plus a short list of what the spec already got right.

Sample output
Mailchimp lead-routing spec review (excerpt)

CRITICAL: No error notifications enabled, silent failures possible.
CRITICAL: Task volume never estimated against a 600 fills/week launch.
MODERATE: No filter step, spam/test entries pass through.
FINE: Slack message includes name, company, and source page.

Success criteria

You're done when you can:

  • Correctly identifies the missing error notifications as the most severe risk
  • Separates at least one genuine defect from at least one non-defect
